Measuring the Speed and Acceleration of a Loco
This article is an amalgamation (and re-edit) of two articles which I wrote for the MERG newsletter (August 05 & November 05?). I've made an excel file which does the maths and displays the intermediate values, download it (13.5 KB).
Useful Keyboard Shortcuts
Below is a table of useful keyboard short cuts for scientists/engineers etc.
How to be a Successful Engineer
I saw this hanging in a prep room so thought I'd share it.
Scared Of & For Our Kids
Why is it that as a nation we are both scared of our kids and scared for them? Are they simply behaving to the standards that the media has set for them?
Evolution & Americans
As it's 150 years since Charles Darwin published his book ("The Origin of Species …") I thought I'd share this with you.
Doh
So some crackers have managed to take over an email address shown in the Simpsons. (Read the Register's take on it here). So a few years ago the folks behind the Simpsons shows Homer's email address (Chunkylover53@aol.com), smartly the writers actually registered this screenname to stop any crackers from exploiting it. The writers then replied (in the style of Homer) to anyone who emailed him, however eventually (and unsuprisingly) the work load got too much so they let the account become inactive. Enter some crackers who resurected the account and used it to send links to people who had added Homer to their buddy list in AIM, links to sites which contain malware.
Warning: Do not look into LASER with remaining good eye!
I came across this story today about a group of Russian ravers losing part of their eye sight due to LASERS and it reminded me of the often quoted sign from a university LASER lab (see title).
HHA Loads
So having got some HHA coal loads from Ten Commandments at the Perth MRC show a few weekends ago, I decided it might be an idea to paint them (one more small job out the way). Yes the photograph showed some missed bits (amazing how cruel a camera can be to a modeller) which have now been patched up.
MyContent View
On my site (and some others which I've used Drupal for) I have a page which shows the current user a list of their content, providing a central place for them to update / edit. This is done using the Views module and below is the exported view. Feel free to use it on your own sites, once you've imported it you'll likely need to make some small changes but it should be a good starting spot.
MyDetails View
One of the blocks on my site (and some others which I've used Drupal for) displays the currently logged in user's details, I mainly use this to allow me to double check which user I'm logged in as. This is done using the Views module and below is the exported view. Feel free to use it on your own sites, once you've imported it you may want to make some small changes but it should be a good starting spot.
